A magistrate court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on
Wednesday remanded 32-year-old Daniel Akpos in prison for allegedly robbing a
man of his wedding ring and other valuables a day to the victim’s wedding.
The Magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel Adekunle, said the court lacked
jurisdiction to hear the case and ordered the remand of the accused at Ibara
Prisons pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice. Adekunle subsequently adjourned the matter till July 11 for
mention.

Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused, whose plea was
not taken by the court, was not represented by a counsel.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini, told
the court that the accused robbed one Mr. Akinwande Ayotunde, of his money and valuables,
valued at N264,000.
He said that the offences were committed on April 20 at
about 2am on Araromi Street, Obada-Oko in Abeokuta.
“Daniel robbed Ayotunde in his house a day to his wedding,
stealing four phones valued at N47,000.
“Other items stolen included a wedding ring worth N50,000 , a
necklace valued at N17,500 and N150,000,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened sections (1), (2), (a)
of the Robbery and Firearms Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
