The Progressive Governors Forum has expressed willingness to
assist the Federal Government toward rescuing the abducted schoolgirls
from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
The group’s offer of assistance was contained in a statement by its Chairman, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on
Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement quoted Okorocha as saying, “The PGF is deeply concerned about the activities of insurgents in the North-East and is committed to working with the Federal Government toward tackling the menace.”
He described the abduction of the schoolgirls as an assault on the nation, an attack on civility, constitutionalism and colossal descent to barbarism.
The Forum chairman expressed gratitude to Nigerians and the international community for standing by the innocent schoolgirls, their parents, the Chibok community and the people and government of Borno State.
He pledged the Forum’s support to the girls’ parents and government of Borno to ensure that they received treatment for the physical and psychological trauma they might have suffered in captivity.
The statement said, “We shall also undertake the rebuilding of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, to ensure that the students are able to resume normal life.
“More than ever before, we are resolute in our determination to move our dear nation forward as a successful fight against terrorism is critical precondition for stability and constitutional governance.
“Together with all progressives and patriots, we will join hands to restore peace in Nigeria.’’
In a related development, the PGF had promised to support victims of the Nyanya bomb blast, an Abuja suburb, with N100m. (NAN)
